Transit gas pipeline DN 1000 in Bulgaria: Repair for Greece and North Macedonia

Challenge in mountainous terrain mastered

In autumn 2024, HABAU S.R.L. repaired a section of the Bulgarian transit gas pipeline DN 1000 between the Yavorovo and Gorno Belevo stations in the Stara Zagora region. Pipeline Equipment supplied the construction site with centering equipment and weld seam cover mats – directly from Gladbeck to Bulgaria.

Project overview: Repair of the transit pipeline DN 1000

The transit gas pipeline supplies the Republic of Greece and the Republic of North Macedonia with natural gas, making it an important pipeline for the energy supply in South-Eastern Europe. The pipeline was repaired in the section between Yavorovo and Gorno Belevo. The partly hilly and mountainous terrain placed particular demands on equipment and work processes.

Customer and partners

The client was the Bulgarian branch of HABAU S.R.L., part of the Austrian HABAU Group. HABAU has been active in pipeline construction in Bulgaria for years.

Construction period: Deliveries from September to November 2024

We supplied the construction site between September and November 2024 – by freight forwarder on pallets directly to the site in Vinarovo. To save freight costs, we bundled deliveries and shipped the external and internal line-up clamps together.

Products and technology: Equipment for DN 1000

For aligning and welding the DN 1000 pipes, we supplied:

• Welding blankets: DN 1000, 50 cm wide, to protect the welds
• Pneumatic internal line-up clamp DN 1000 with hill brake: for safe centering of the pipes even on slopes
• External line-up clamp DN 1000: with hydraulic cylinder (5 t pressure force)
• External line-up clamp DN 1000: heavy-duty version with bridges, set screws and hydraulic cylinder (10 t pressure force)
